Letter on Child Care Subsidies and Investments in Early Learning
Through our Affiliate network, UnidosUS became aware of concerns regarding the eligibility of child care subsidies for mixed-status families.
Two of our Affiliates, Centro de La Familia and Comunidades Unidas, have been working with several families who would benefit from child care subsidies, however, because one or both parents are undocumented, the families are being denied this subsidy even though their children are US citizens. We need to ensure children have access to high-quality care and receive the subsidies and resources they are eligible for according to federal law.
This letter outlines current policies, the issue of eligibility being based on the parent’s immigration status instead of the children’s citizenship, and goals UnidosUS and our affiliates are working towards.
