UnidosUS and 23 national organizations that work to empower Hispanic communities sent a letter to Secretary Mayorkas and Attorney General Garland urging them to utilize existing authorities to provide much-needed relief, fairness, and stability to immigrant families. The letter identifies specific policy considerations, including reducing the backlog in the “provisional waiver” program and providing those stuck in the queue the chance to apply for temporary work authorization, and establishing a process to make non-lawful permanent resident cancellation of removal more accessible to those who are eligible.
This brief presents key data on immigration enforcement and its impact on our nation’s children, and it proposes action steps for the federal government as well as state and local policymakers.
The publication provides an overview of the need for immigration legal services and the work of UnidosUS Affiliates in providing immigration legal services.
In letters to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, UnidosUS called on top congressional appropriators to provide robust funding and improvements to federal programs that would advance the well-being of Hispanic communities.
This publication is a resource for policymakers and advocates to better understand the critical policies that, if enacted, would meaningfully improve the lives of our nation’s 62 million Latinos.
