The Affordable Care Act Helps Millions of Latinos Lead Healthier, More Financially Secure Lives
This fact sheet explains the benefits the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has brought to Latinos, both nationally and in the 20 states with the greatest number of Latinos. Nationally:
- 9 million Latinos have health care who would otherwise be uninsured.
- 43 million Latinos with chronic health problems like high blood pressure are protected from insurance company discrimination against people with preexisting conditions.
- Nearly 20 million Latinas are protected from insurance company discrimination based on gender. Before the ACA, insurers could raise premiums for women and deny coverage of all services related to pregnancy.
- 50 million Latinos are guaranteed free preventive health care, without copayments or deductibles.
- 2 million young Latino adults are covered through their parents’ health plans.
For millions of Americans, including millions of Latinos, the ACA is making a difference every day by helping them obtain affordable health care, improving health and protecting families’ financial security.
