Gang violence and gang-related issues in the District of Columbia require immediate attention and the implementation of strategies with demonstrated effectiveness.
However, in crafting their response, policymakers must adequately consider whether their proposals provide meaningful deterrents and effective interventions that will help get youth back on the right track, while also ensuring that the juvenile justice system provide for consequences that fit the crime.
