Medicaid Cuts Would Rip Away Health Coverage from Millions of Americans, Disproportionately Harming People of Color

Research Report

This report, co-authored by UnidosUS and other leading civil rights and health equity organizations, highlights the devastating impact of Medicaid cuts on communities across the United States, particularly communities of color.

Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 70 million Americans, providing essential health coverage to children, seniors, people with disabilities and low-wage workers. Nearly 42 million people of color rely on Medicaid, including 20.3 million Latinos, 13.3 million African Americans and millions of Asian Americans, Native Americans and Pacific Islanders.

The House budget cuts threaten to strip health coverage from millions of people, exacerbate health inequities and deepen financial insecurity for hard-working families already facing serious challenges every day. The report underscores how these cuts disproportionately harm communities of color; driving up medical debt, worsening health outcomes and leaving families without access to critical care.

Armed with data and analysis, this report calls on policymakers to reject these harmful cuts and protect the health and financial security of all Americans. Download the full report to learn more about the urgent need to defend Medicaid and ensure health equity for our communities, preventing Congress from shredding a core component of the health care system on which all Americans rely on.
