Hispanic Advocacy Organizations Urge Congressional Leaders to Honor Civil Rights Legacy of Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez

Congressional Letter

Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez

In a letter to Speaker McCarthy, Leader Jeffries, Chairman Graves, and Ranking Member Larsen, UnidosUS and 20 other organizations that advocate for the empowerment of Hispanic communities express their support for legislation led by Representative Jimmy Gomez that would designate a Los Angeles U.S. Courthouse in honor of Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez.

The Mendez’s advocacy led to the landmark 1946 case that ended segregation in California schools and paved the way for the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education.
