While the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) lifted 6.7 million working families above the poverty line in 2014, more than seven million workers who are not raising children were taxed into–or fell deeper into–poverty. This fact sheet focuses on who workers not raising children are, how they are taxed into poverty by the EITC, and what expanding the EITC can do to ensure all workers see better returns on their work.
