Latino Jobs Report: Latino Unemployment Drops to 7.9%

Fact Sheet

The March 2021 jobs report shows that the labor market is improving, though overall employment across sectors remains well below pre-pandemic levels.

Key sectors like leisure and hospitality, public and private education, and construction experienced gains. In March, the economy gained 916,000, more than economic forecasters predicted.

Latino unemployment rate stands at 7.9%, still higher than the national average of 6.0%, and Latino workforce participation is up slightly. The March jobs report signals that the continued easing of pandemic-related restrictions and people increasingly accessing vaccines are contributing toward job growth. However, it’s clear the recovery will be slow for Latinos to reach pre-pandemic employment levels.
