Amicus Curiae Brief AAJC, AALDEF, NWLC & 38 Civil Rights Groups
UnidosUS joined 41 leading civil rights, public health, and other groups in support of San Francisco and San Francisco County, the State of California, and the State of Washington in their suit against U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ proposed regulation to modify the “public charge” test (“public charge”). Public charge would create a de facto wealth test for eligible immigrants seeking to apply for legal permanent residency (green card) andor extensions to certain visa classes. Research overwhelmingly shows that rules like public charge disproportionately impact immigrants of color and harm U.S. citizen children in immigrant families. UnidosUS has raised alarm over the Trump administration’s suppression of Latino and immigrant communities and works tirelessly to oppose its attacks on legal immigration and American families.
