UnidosUS welcomes extension of TPS for Venezuelans
WASHINGTON, DC— UnidosUS, the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, today applauded the Biden Administration’s extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Venezuelans.
The measure could allow nearly half a million Venezuelans to qualify for work authorization and protection from deportation. UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía issued the following statement in response to the decision.
“This is not only the right decision but the smart decision by President Biden and will allow hundreds of thousands of people in search of freedom and democracy, and eager for work, to start contributing to the communities where they live. And this will also help relieve the challenges that city and state governments have faced and bolster the incredible work that they and community-based organizations such as UnidosUS Affiliates have done to help those seeking refuge. This is a much-needed, constructive, and welcomed development and we applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for taking this long-awaited action.”
