UnidosUS Condemns Congress for Handing DHS $70B with Zero Accountability Measures
WASHINGTON — Today, UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization, strongly condemned the House passage of reconciliation legislation that funnels more than $70 billion into expanded immigration enforcement without accountability measures.
In response to the vote, Janet Murguía, president and CEO of UnidosUS, issued the following statement:
“Leaders in the House and Senate majority have now handed the Trump administration a blank check to continue its lawless and dangerous assault on communities across the country. Through this legislation, more than $70 billion will be funneled to DHS for unchecked immigration enforcement – without providing any accountability measures or guardrails. This is unacceptable.
“The Trump administration’s mass deportation campaign has brought chaos, terror, and deep economic harms to communities across the country. Latinos and others in these communities demand accountability and demand that leaders put their safety and well-being first. UnidosUS will continue to ensure that their voices are heard.”
