Sneak Peek: Poll of Hispanic Midterm Voters Shows Anger Over the Economy and Immigration Overreach Drove Them to Polls

Survey of 3,050 Latino voters shows major cost-of-living worries; full national and state data to be released November 4

WASHINGTON — As midterm elections got underway, UnidosUS, Latino Community Foundation and BSP Research released an initial look from the 2026 Midterm Election Voter Poll, offering a sneak peek at what drove U.S. Latino voters to cast a ballot.

The survey of more than 10,000 voters, including 3,050 Latino voters, was conducted by BSP Research and the African American Research Collaborative (AARC) among those who voted early, voted by mail or were certain to vote on Election Day. It includes oversamples in Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan and Texas, and in U.S. House and Senate battlegrounds.

HISPANIC FINDINGS FROM THE 2026 MIDTERM ELECTION VOTER POLL

  • The cost of living and inflation remain the top concern Latino voters want Congress and the president to actively do something about. Everyday expenses are top of mind for Latino voters: Grocery and food costs rank as the leading cost-of-living concern, followed by housing expenses (including rent and mortgage payments) and the cost of gasoline. This finding underscores how rising prices for everyday necessities continue to shape Latino families’ economic concerns and experiences.
  • An overwhelming majority of Hispanic voters across party lines support a balanced and orderly immigration system. This includes an earned path to citizenship for long-term residents, targeted and accountable interior enforcement that advances public safety, legal immigration channels that support the economy and families, and effective border security. This finding points to broad support for an approach that balances border security, public safety and an orderly immigration system.
  • Latino voters are sending a clear message to both parties: Deliver on the issues that matter most. While a majority of Latino voters say they have greater trust in the Democratic Party to address top issues, the swing in this electorate underscores that Latino voters’ support must be earned and sustained through continued engagement and meaningful action on their priorities.
  • Latino voters report greater outreach from campaigns and candidates in the 2026 election. While much of this came in the month prior to the election, the competitive nature of the election, coupled with increased outreach, is a contributing factor to turnout rates and supports the fact that meaningful outreach is essential.

These findings offer a snapshot of Latino voters’ sentiment and perspectives. On Wednesday, November 4, at 2:00 p.m. ET, UnidosUS, Latino Community Foundation and BSP Research will host a virtual press briefing to present the full poll findings, including vote choice and views of both parties. Media can RSVP here.

About the 2026 Midterm Election Voter Poll

The 2026 Midterm Election Voter Poll (MEVP) follows 10 election cycles and nearly a decade of voter polls, with more accurate samples of Asian American, Black, Latino, Native American, and White voters, and question content that deepens our understanding of why and how voters voted. Implemented by BSP Research and the African American Research Collaborative (AARC), the 2026 MEVP interviewed more than 10,000 voters, capturing vote choices, issue priorities, and evaluations of both major parties across 2026’s most competitive Senate, gubernatorial, and House contests. The survey was offered in English and Spanish. Results will be released the day after Election Day, with data reported by key demographics and their intersections, including race/ethnicity, gender, age, income, geography, religiosity, marital status, and union membership.
