Hundreds of Volunteers From UnidosUS and Comcast NBCUniversal Join Forces as Part of 18th Annual Comcast Cares Day
Volunteers from local Unidos Affiliates will come together to beautify communities and campuses and give back across the country
WASHINGTON, DC– UnidosUS and Comcast NBCUniversal will partner together at volunteer projects across the country as part of the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day, being recognized this year on Saturday, May 4. Comcast Cares Day is a companywide celebration of its year-round commitment to service and volunteerism in the community. UnidosUS and Comcast NBCUniversal employees, their family members and friends, and community leaders will join more than 100,000 volunteers across the country who will “make change happen” at more than 1,000 projects and around the world.
This is the 13th consecutive year that UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization, will partner with Comcast NBCUniversal on this annual event. Efforts will range from beautifying playgrounds, gardening and constructing planters, painting, reviewing resumes and participating in mock interviews. Some of the projects with UnidosUS Affiliates include:
- AAMA/Sanchez Charter School (Houston, TX): Approximately 250 volunteers will beautify and revitalize the Sanchez Charter School campus.
- Congreso de Latinos Unidos (Philadelphia, PA): More than 100 volunteers will help to improve the campus environment by cleaning outdoor spaces, mulching and planting, beautifying the community garden and helping to encourage students to succeed by reviewing resumes and participating in mock interviews.
- Latin American Community Center (Wilmington, DE): Approximately 100 volunteers will beautify the playground area, paint and fence an outside mural, clean book shelves, garden and construct planters, among other activities to help empower the community and campus.
“For the last 13 years, UnidosUS and our Affiliates across the country have been proud to participate in Comcast Cares Day with our partners at Comcast NBCUniversal. This year is no exception with Affiliates joining the Comcast NBCUniversal family in Texas, Delaware, and Pennsylvania among others. Together we are helping to revitalize neighborhood centers and schools across the country, providing beautiful common spaces that all children and their families can enjoy, and giving back to the communities we serve,” said UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía.
UnidosUS’s Affiliates provide programs and services to millions of Hispanic Americans and uses their expertise to give voice to issues facing Latinos. Through their work, these nonprofits provide educational tools for children and adults, prepare workers to enter the labor force, facilitate the integration of immigrants into schools and the workforce, register people to vote, provide health services, help families purchase and stay in their homes and promote policies that support the well-being of Latino families.
Since the first Comcast Cares Day in 2001, more than one million Comcast Cares Day volunteers have contributed more than six million service hours to improve local communities at more than 10,000 projects around the world. It has become one of the largest corporate commitments to service and volunteerism in America. To date, the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation has awarded nearly $25 million in grants to local nonprofits, including UnidosUS, who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
