UnidosUS President and CEO: Impeachment is a necessary response to the untold damage Trump has done to our democracy
WASHINGTON, DC— In response to President Donald Trump being impeached for a second time by the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía issued the following statement:
“The House of Representatives today voted—in a bipartisan vote—to impeach Donald Trump for the second time. This is unprecedented in our country’s history, but what President Trump did to our nation and to our system of government last week is also unprecedented. Never before has a president incited a group of his most extreme followers to violently attack another branch of government, resulting in the loss of five lives and untold damage to our nation’s Capitol building and to our democracy.
The House’s vote to impeach was a tragic but necessary action that UnidosUS fully endorses and that we called for last week in the wake of the assault on the Capitol. We as a country cannot move forward if we ignore or dismiss the president’s un-democratic and un-American actions. We cannot restore faith in our democracy without holding President Trump accountable for his role in one of the darkest days of our country’s history. In that vein, we urge the Senate in the strongest possible terms to vote as quickly as possible to convict President Trump and bar him from ever holding office again.”
