Defending the Future of Public Education: Culminating Summit of the Future of Assessment and Accountability Project

Date & Time

June 10, 2025 | 9:30 AM EST

Location

The Dupont Circle Hotel
1500 New Hampshire Avenue NW, Washington D.C.

In this defining moment for the American education system, our ability to defend and reimagine public education will shape the promise of democracy and opportunity for generations to come.

Bringing together a dynamic group of voices—including civil rights leaders, educators, families, policymakers, and students—this summit will explore how the education field can meet the pivotal challenges we face today. Join us to dive into the findings of the Future of Assessment and Accountability (FOAA) project—a multi-year initiative led by the National Urban League and UnidosUS to reimagine K–12 assessment and accountability systems. Through dynamic panels and interactive small group discussions, this event will uplift voices too often excluded from policy conversations and advance a bold, civil rights-centered vision for education that demands transformative policy change.

Who is this event for?

  • Congressional staff seeking to inform federal education policy with insights from the field
  • State and local education agency representatives interested in innovative, equity-driven solutions
  • Educators and school leaders working directly with students in K–12 settings
  • Community-based and youth development organizations supporting students beyond the classroom
  • Education advocates and civil rights leaders committed to equity and justice in education
  • Researchers and experts in assessment and accountability
  • Philanthropy focused on systems change in education
  • Media and communications professionals covering education, equity, and policy reform
  • Youth and families, especially from historically excluded communities
