UnidosUS Applauds Congressional Passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

WASHINGTON — Today, UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization, applauded the Senate and House passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a major bipartisan housing package aimed at expanding the housing supply and lowering barriers to stable housing.

In response to the passage of this legislation, Janet Murguía, President and CEO of UnidosUS, issued the following statement:

“For too many families, the dream of owning a home has felt further and further out of reach. This week, Congress has taken a real step toward changing that.

In our recent polling, Latino voters made it clear that housing affordability is one of their priorities, and this bill finally delivers the meaningful action they have been demanding. This bill shows exactly what is possible when Washington puts the economic stability of American families first.

“By modernizing federal housing programs and reducing barriers to building more homes, this legislation tackles the root causes of our housing supply and affordability crisis. It will help more families access affordable housing, build wealth and provide a stable home for their families to thrive.

“We applaud Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott and Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren as well as House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill and Ranking Member Maxine Waters for their leadership in championing this bill. Once this bill is signed into law, Latinos and other families can finally get the relief they urgently need.”
