Vote Recommendation on FY 2026 DHS Funding and Immigration Enforcement Safeguards

Letter

We urge Congress to oppose the proposed fiscal year 2026 funding package for the Department of Homeland Security unless it includes meaningful safeguards to protect constitutional rights and ensure accountability in immigration enforcement.

Our recommendation highlights documented incidents involving U.S. citizens, children and families affected by enforcement actions and calls for reforms such as requiring judicial warrants for certain enforcement activities, strengthening oversight and accountability, protecting access to counsel and ending enforcement at sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals and places of worship.

We emphasize that any federal funding for immigration enforcement should include clear protections to ensure enforcement actions remain lawful, transparent and consistent with constitutional rights.
