UnidosUS Urges Senators to Reject Harmful Border Provisions

Congressional Letter

Senate floor

Letter from UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía calling on senators to vote NO on the national security supplemental bill that includes harmful border-related provisions.

Latinos’ highest immigration priority is legal status for long-residing undocumented immigrants with deep family and economic ties in the U.S., which this proposal does not include. Despite some a short-term increase in visas, guaranteed legal assistance for unaccompanied minors under 14, and other protections for a limited number of migrants, on balance the proposal makes harmful and punitive changes to our asylum system that will put refugees at risk. It also fails to make the broad reforms our immigration system needs. Senators should stand for workable solutions that are fair, effective, and humane.
