Listening to Latino Families: Parent Focus Group Findings and Discussion

Topic Brief

A loving Latino father and mother cradle their infant son, smiling warmly at their baby. This heartwarming family moment captures the joy of parenthood and the bond between parents and child.

In 2022, UnidosUS conducted focus groups of Latino parents with children under the age of three years.

The parent focus groups showed that Latino parents know what they want for their children and are active in supporting their children to achieve these goals.

But Latino families of infants face multiple challenges: misinformation regarding early dual language development, racism and discrimination and access problems with systems and services.

This topic brief summarizes the findings of our focus groups. It will inform the implementation of the UnidosUS Latino Infant Policy Agenda at the federal and state levels, which recommends policy changes that will help address the challenges faced by Hispanic parents raising young children.

The Latino Infant Initiative (LII) is a partnership between UnidosUS and Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors.
