Better Buildings, More Jobs How President Obama’s Energy Plan Could Affect Latino Workers

Other

On February 3, President Obama announced a goal to make commercial buildings 20% more energy efficient by 2020. Through tax incentives, competitive grants, and regulations, the president’s Better Buildings Initiative aims to reduce the nation’s energy consumption and create jobs. NCLR’s analysis shows that nearly 400,000 Latinos work in occupations that could see significant job growth under this Presidential initiative. However, 90 percent of these workers will need additional training to transition to energy efficiency jobs from other industries.
