Utah’s Comunidades Unidas Presented with UnidosUS Affiliate of the Year Award
CHICAGO— UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, tonight honored Comunidades Unidas with the UnidosUS Affiliate of the Year Award for their exceptional work creating meaningful change for the Latino community.
The Affiliate of the Year is the highest honor bestowed on an UnidosUS Affiliate for exemplary work in service to their community, as well as its collaboration with UnidosUS and the UnidosUS Affiliate network. UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía presented the award during the Awards Gala marking the conclusion of the organization’s 2023 Annual Conference in Chicago.
“Comunidades Unidas has always helped the growing Latino community of Utah in their times of need. Most recently, they have helped Latino Utahns cope with the pandemic, helped immigrants and aspiring Americans with legal services, and are working to empower Hispanics in Utah by registering them to vote. They are a shining example of what our UnidosUS Affiliates do every day,” said UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía.
Founded in 1999, Comunidades Unidas has built the social and political power of people who identify as Latinx immigrants (including undocumented individuals) living in Utah. They have defended the human rights of the Latino community by connecting them to the social service programs they need to prosper and with opportunities to organize to transform themselves and their community.
In addition to the Affiliate of the Year award, UnidosUS is recognizing the exemplary work of our Affiliates with regional awards. Our Regional Affiliates of the Year include:
- California: Canal Alliance
- Northeast: Committee for Hispanic Children and Families
- Texas: Proyecto Inmigrante
- Southeast: Edu-Futuro
- Midwest: The Resurrection Project
