WASHINGTON, DC—UnidosUS commends President Joe Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.

UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía issued the following statement:

“Today, we celebrate a historic first with the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Judge Jackson’s extensive judicial record and experience as a federal public defender have demonstrated her commitment to civil rights and the issues impacting everyday Americans. We applaud President Biden on this historic and stellar choice.

“There have been 115 justices who have sat on the Supreme Court, but not one has been a Black woman. Nominating the first to the Supreme Court is long overdue. Today, we celebrate the decades of service by Black women judges to get to this historic moment. We call on the Senate to help move our country forward and conduct a fair confirmation process that emphasizes Judge Jackson’s impressive qualifications and the issues that Americans care about most.
