UnidosUS hails nomination of Dr. Adriana Kugler to the Federal Reserve

Noted economist would be first Hispanic to serve on the Fed’s Board of Governors

WASHINGTON, DC— UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía today applauded President Joe Biden for nominating Dr. Adriana Kugler to the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors. Dr. Kugler is a highly respected economist who is currently serving as the U.S. Executive Director at the World Bank.

“It is difficult to imagine someone more qualified and more well-suited to serve as a governor at the Fed than Dr. Kugler. She draws upon 25 years of experience and award-winning accomplishments as a tenured professor at Georgetown University, as former chief economist at the Department of Labor, and currently as our country’s representative at the World Bank. Her proven expertise on the U.S. economy and labor force will make her an exceptional addition to the Federal Reserve.

“This is a historic moment of pride for the Latino community. In the 110 years since the Fed was created, there has never been a Hispanic governor. Given the critical role Latinos play in the U.S. economy— and the central role the Fed has in driving monetary policy and other issues that deeply affect our economic well-being—this nomination is long overdue but highly welcomed. We thank Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) for his tireless leadership and advocacy to make this longtime goal of our community a reality.”
