UnidosUS Denounces Trump’s Appointment of Stephen Miller as Chief of Staff, a Rejection of Voters’ Message

WASHINGTON — Today, UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, denounced President Donald Trump’s decision to name Stephen Miller as his White House chief of staff.

President and CEO Janet Murguía released the following statement:

“There is no greater sign that Donald Trump is ‘giving the middle finger’ to millions of American voters and the message they sent to his administration on Tuesday than his disastrous decision to name Stephen Miller his chief of staff. Voters overwhelmingly rejected the cruelty and abusive overreach of mass deportation. Miller is not only the architect of that campaign but also has led the way in smearing and lying about the unarmed, nonviolent migrants and U.S. citizens unjustly killed by his immigration force.

“The election also saw the defection of many Hispanic and Black 2024 Trump voters. Miller’s ties to white nationalists are extensive, well documented and go back decades.

“Finally, to get anything done on the issues the vast majority of Americans are focused on, like the cost of living, the president will need the incoming Democratic majority in Congress. Instead, he has selected the most polarizing, divisive, uncompromising and dangerous person in his circle to lead the White House. This appointment cements the fact that it is up to Congress, and only Congress, to rein in this reckless administration.”
