UnidosUS Applauds Bipartisan House Vote to Extend Health Insurance Tax Credits for Millions of Americans and Urges the Senate to Act Quickly
Immediate relief is needed from new rising health insurance costs.
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation to extend health insurance tax credits under the Affordable Care Act for three years. The House vote would offer immediate relief to millions of families facing steep premium increases after the credits expired on Jan. 1.
UnidosUS Vice President of Policy and Advocacy Carmen Feliciano issued the following statement in response:
“Today’s bipartisan vote is an important step toward protecting millions of families from unaffordable health insurance bills. More than 20 million Americans, including more than 6 million Latinos, rely on these tax credits to keep coverage within reach. Without swift action, premiums will rise by more than $1,000 a year for many households that are already struggling with the rising cost of food, housing and other essentials.
“The Senate should now act quickly. As of Jan. 1, families are already receiving higher bills, moving to lower-quality plans with high deductibles or dropping coverage entirely. They should not face additional barriers or delays when it comes to maintaining access to health care.
“We urge senators in both parties to pass a clean extension of health insurance tax credits as soon as possible. This is a moment to put families first and restore stability and peace of mind for millions.”
