UnidosUS Announces Strategic Updates to Senior Leadership Team

WASHINGTON, DC— This month UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights organization, announced new additions and promotions within its Cabinet and Leadership Team. Through the strategic inclusion of new and seasoned leaders, UnidosUS positions itself to continue organizational success in finance, policy, and communications to advance the priorities of the Latino community.

“UnidosUS’s commitment to advancing opportunities for Latinos depends on a team of wise, experienced leaders navigating the path to impact,” said Sonia M. Pérez, Chief Operating Officer. “We are excited both to invest in internal talent and attract accomplished leaders who collaborate to achieve our strategic goals this year and beyond.” 

UnidosUS Cabinet and Leadership Team updates include the following: 

Kevin Smith joins UnidosUS as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), bringing significant and deep finance expertise and a commitment to mission-driven organizations. Kevin is a CPA and MBA with a demonstrated track record of growth and accomplishments throughout his career, most recently at the United Way of the National Capital Area in DC. He has served on the board of Hogar Hispano, Inc. and supported the initial concept to establish the Raza Development Fund—a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and support organization to UnidosUS. In his role as CFO, Kevin will oversee Finance, Information Technology, and UnidosUS Properties LLC and will serve as a member of the UnidosUS Cabinet. 

Carmen Feliciano joins UnidosUS as Vice President of Policy & Advocacy. Carmen has more than 25 years of experience in government relations as an accomplished public policy advisor in Washington, DC. She recently led the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration as its executive director. In her new role, Carmen will support strategy and team development to advance our policy agenda and impact on core issues. Carmen will also be a member of the Leadership Team.  

David Castro has been promoted to Deputy Vice President, Communications and Marketing. In his new role, David will lead strategies for integrated communications campaigns in support of the organizational priorities of UnidosUS, overseeing the Editorial Content, Digital Marketing, and Brand and Design functions. Most recently, he helped lead UnidosUS’s communications and marketing work to drive an accurate narrative about the contributions of Latinos to the country, as well as UnidosUS’s multi-year COVID-vaccine education campaign. David has more than 15 years of experience in multicultural communications and began his career as an advertising copywriter in Puerto Rico.  He will also be a member of the Leadership Team.
