UnidosUS Urges Community to Enroll in Health Insurance Market as ACA Deadline Looms

December 15 is last day to enroll for majority of states

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, UnidosUS (formerly NCLR), urged Latinos across the country to sign up for health coverage before tomorrow’s deadline for enrollment under the ACA (Affordable Care Act). Latinos have widely benefited from the ACA—more than four million Latinos have been able to get covered because of the law. Since the ACA became law, the rate of Latino uninsured has sunk to historic lows—from one in four in 2013 to one in six today.
“We encourage everyone in the community who has yet to enroll or renew their plan to take action right now. Health coverage leads to better outcomes, greater financial security, and peace of mind for families when the unexpected hits,” said UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía. “It means children can get the health care they need without their families going bankrupt.”
In light of the short sign-up window set by the current administration, UnidosUS launched an extensive communications campaign to educate the community about the opportunity to enroll before the December 15 deadline. Such efforts included paid digital and radio ads in both English and Spanish in targeted markets; a series of blog posts highlighting the work of UnidosUS Affiliates to get our community covered; and launching a landing page housing tips and resources to help navigate the enrollment process.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, most consumers will be able to enroll in health coverage for less than $75 per month. In addition, financial help to reduce out-of-pocket costs for health care services like doctor’s visits and prescription drugs is also available for those who qualify. Don’t miss this opportunity to sign up. Go to healthcare.gov or cuidadodesalud.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 and enroll now.
