UnidosUS Roundtable to Address How Federal Budget Proposal and Tax Reform Take Aim at Arizona’s Economic Progress and Latino Families

PHOENIX—On Tuesday, September 19, UnidosUS (formerly NCLR) will hold a roundtable discussion at tMove to Trashhe Arizona Community Foundation with local leaders and UnidosUS policy experts to examine how Latino families and Arizona’s economy will fare under the proposed federal budget and tax plan that Congress will soon consider. This discussion comes at a time when efforts to undermine the safety and well-being of the Latino community face an all-time high. Between stepped-up deportation efforts and repeated attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the Latino community continues to be the target of unjust and harmful policies intent on sowing fear and reversing progress.

The event will bring to the forefront the ongoing debate over tax reform and take a close look at how the current tax plan jeopardizes the economic footing of struggling families to pad the wallets of corporations and those most wealthy. Participants will also discuss how the federal budget would undermine the livelihood of Arizona’s working families through deep cuts to essential nutrition and health programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and unveil findings of a new UnidosUS factsheet, “Federal Programs Lift Latinos Out of Poverty: Spotlight on Arizona.”
