UnidosUS Roundtable to Discuss Impact of Drastic Cuts to Critical Anti-Poverty Programs

LAS VEGAS—On Wednesday, August 30, 2017, UnidosUS (formerly NCLR) will be joined by Nevada community leaders and state representatives at a roundtable discussion to preview how the federal budget proposed by the Trump administration and the ongoing debate over tax reform stand to impact Nevada’s economic growth; and the economic footing of hardworking Latino Nevadans.

As it stands, Trump’s proposed budget runs counter to sound economic policies and programs geared at helping vulnerable Americans. His attempt to slash funding for safety net programs – including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Rental Assistance program – will severely undermine the well-being of many Latinos who rely on these s to stay afloat and help many remain above the poverty line.

Presenters will share important insights on the budget proposal, the function and impact of the social safety net programs it seeks to eradicate, and release a new factsheet detailing how federal anti-poverty programs and refundable tax credits, including the Earned Incomes Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), have been central to the steady progress Latinos have made over the course of the last decade.
