Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García to Join State Representatives and UnidosUS to Explore the Impact of the Great Recession on Latinos in Illinois
CHICAGO, IL—On Saturday, June 22, UnidosUS (formerly NCLR) alongside Representative Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) and Illinois State Representatives Aaron Ortiz (D-01) and Celina Villanueva (D-21) will host a public forum to discuss Latinos’ financial experiences since the onset of the Great Recession. The event will also feature an in-depth look at UnidosUS’s latest report, “Latinos and the Great Recession: 10 Years of Economic Loss and Recovery,” and a discussion on the policy solutions to alleviate the barriers to wealth-building facing Latinos.
The Great Recession had a deep-seated economic impact on many communities across the country, particularly on Latinos, who experienced disproportionate and devastating financial losses. The report will preview key findings on how Latinos are faring in terms of recovery 10 years later, with a special focus on Illinois’ Latino community. In addition, policymakers will provide updates on the outcomes of this year’s state legislative session for the Latino community.
Interested media should RSVP to Gabriela Gomez at [email protected] or (202) 776-1732.
