Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker to Discuss Latino Policy Priorities with NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía

June 15, 2017

NEWARK—NCLR (National Council of La Raza) President and CEO Janet Murguía will join Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) this Monday, June 19 from noon–2 p.m. EST, for a conversation on Latino policy priorities. Murguía will engage the New Jersey senators in a frank conversation regarding the current political climate and how lawmakers are working to protect the gains Latinos have made on critical issues including healthcare, immigration, and the federal budget.

As we witness efforts to jeopardize the health coverage of millions of Americans; immigration policies geared at fomenting fear in our community; and a federal budget that prioritizes funding for the most egregious parts of President Trump’s agenda, it is important that we join forces with supportive lawmakers to protect and defend the progress we have made on these fronts.

Concurrent with the event will be the release of NCLR’s new report titled “2017 Latino Priorities, American Values: A Latino Policy Agenda for the 115th Congress,” which outlines the organization’s federal policy priorities and examines how broad reforms in the areas of civil rights, economic issues, and education, among others, can help bolster opportunities for the Latino community.

This event is open to press. Interested media should RSVP to Gabriela Gomez at [email protected] or 202-776-1732.
