Volunteers From Unidosus And COMCAST NBCUNIVERSAL Join Forces To Beautify Communities, Mentor Students, Give Back Across The Country
Hundreds of Volunteers from Local Unidos Affiliates to Participate in Projects as Part of 17th Annual Comcast Cares Day
WASHINGTON, DC – UnidosUS, (formerly the National Council of La Raza) and Comcast NBCUniversal will team up tomorrow, Saturday, April 21, to activate projects across the country as part of the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day, a companywide celebration of its year-round commitment to service in the community. Together, UnidosUS and Comcast NBCUniversal employees, their families and friends, will volunteer their time at nearly 30 projects with local UnidosUS affiliates and community organizations.
This is the 12th consecutive year that UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization, will partner with Comcast NBCUniversal on this annual day of service. Efforts will range from painting classrooms to expanding community gardens to mentoring high school youth and preparing them to apply to college. They will join more than 100,000 volunteers who are serving at more than 1,000 Comcast Cares Day project across the country and around the globe. These projects include:
- AAMA / Sanchez Charter School (Houston, TX) – More than 200 volunteers will deep clean school rooms, auditorium and gymnasium areas, furniture, and fixtures; clean and do light repair work in computer labs; and pick up trash from around the school campus.
- Congreso de Latinos Unidos (Philadelphia, PA) – More than 100 volunteers will spruce up the facilities and charter school by cleaning outdoor spaces, mulching and planting, making improvements to the community garden, and painting inside the facility
- CLUES (Minneapolis, MN) – Approximately two dozen volunteers will serve as Mentors for the Day as part of the Youth in Action – YA! Program. YA! is a college readiness and mentorship program focused on guiding students through the process of applying to college.

This year, Comcast Cares Day will engage its 1 millionth volunteer as more than 100,000 employees, their family, and friends will work alongside local community partners at hundreds of project sites across the U.S. and around the globe. Since 2001, Comcast has given more than $5 billion in cash and in-kind contributions to support nonprofit organizations and other charitable partners across the country.
UnidosUS’s Affiliates provide programs and services to millions of Hispanic Americans and uses their expertise to give voice to issues facing Latinos. Through their work, these nonprofits provide educational tools for children and adults, prepare workers to enter the labor force, facilitate the integration of immigrants into schools and the workforce, register people to vote, provide health services, help families purchase and stay in their homes, and promote policies that support the well-being of Latino families.
