National Civil Rights Organizations Join Together to Push for Educational Justice for Students of Color

WASHINGTON, DC—The National Urban League, UnidosUS and The Education Trust will co-host a breakfast and roundtable on Advancing Education Equity through ESSA: A Civil Rights Imperative, from 8:30-11:00 a.m. on June 19, at NCTA, 25 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC. We invite you to join hosts Marc H. Morial, Janet Murguía and John B. King Jr., as they discuss the Every Student Succeeds Act and how to achieve educational justice for students of color. They’ll also share guiding principles that can serve as a framework for equity-minded advocates.

Schools serving large numbers of Black and Latino students are less likely to have adequate funding and instructional materials, experienced teachers and counselors and high-level and AP courses—tools that research shows lead to educational success. It’s time we level the playing field. Those students are our future. Unless we prepare them to succeed, our country will face growing inequality and labor shortages, and the economy will suffer for it.

While some states’ ESSA plans are moving in the right direction, there is much work to be done. Come learn how educators, parents and advocates can ensure that state leaders feel the same urgency as we do about giving all students the education to which they are entitled.
