Countdown Begins for the UnidosUS 2018 Annual Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration

WASHINGTON, D.C.— UnidosUS (formerly National Council of La Raza, NCLR) will host its 2018 Annual Conference—The Next 50 Years: Leading with Tenacity, Courage, and Purpose – in our nation’s capital. This event is the largest gathering of its kind in the Hispanic community and serves as the meeting ground for thousands of community leaders, activists, and volunteers; elected and appointed officials; members of the corporate, philanthropic, and academic communities; college students; and youth. Toyota is the Title Sponsor of this year’s Conference which will be held July 7-10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

“Our Conference this year will be especially significant as UnidosUS celebrates its 50th anniversary. As our Conference theme reflects, we will look to the future, provide inspiration for our community and acknowledge the essential role Hispanics have played and will continue to play in shaping our nation for the next 50 years,” noted Murguía.

Three-days of over 40 workshops, informative plenary sessions, and inspiring remarks and presentations from leading experts across several fields are at the center of a Conference experience that seeks to inform and empower our community and spotlight the integral role of Latinos politically, economically, and socially.

“In these uncertain times, bringing our Annual Conference to the nation’s capital could not be more timely for connecting, strategizing and highlighting our shared purpose of moving the Latino community forward. This convening is more than just a platform that celebrates our community – it’s an opportunity for us to celebrate and harness our collective power,” said UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía.

Among our impressive slate of speakers are Ilia Calderón, co-anchor of Noticiero Univision; former President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and author of Make Trouble, Cecile Richards; and Darren Walker, President and CEO of the Ford Foundation. Attendees will also have an opportunity to hear from esteemed civil rights champions including Vanita Gupta, President and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights; President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Sherrilyn Ifill; Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League; and Center for American Progress President and CEO Neera Tanden.

Complementing this year’s exciting lineup and featured sessions, is the National Latino Family Expo®, title sponsored by UPS, a unique and engaging annual event focused on providing Latino families access to necessary resources and services including free health screenings, cooking demonstrations and educational storytelling sessions. One of the main attractions of the convening, the Expo will feature five themed-pavilions and more than 125 exhibits to provide conferencegoers a fun-filled experience that is also free of charge.
