Congresswomen Mucarsel-Powell and Shalala, UnidosUS and Connect Familias to Discuss the Economic Impact of the Great Recession on Latinos
10 Years of Economic Loss and Recovery
Miami, FL—On Monday, March 18, UnidosUS’s (formerly NCLR) policy experts alongside Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-Fla. 26th District), Congresswoman Donna Shalala (D-Fla. 27th District) and Betty Alonso from Connect Familias will host a public forum to listen to local Latinos’ financial experiences since the onset of the Great Recession. The event will include the release of UnidosUS’s new report, “Latinos and the Great Recession: 10 Years of Economic Loss and Recovery.”
The Great Recession negatively impacted many communities across the country, in particular Latinos, who experienced disproportionate and devastating economic losses. The report will highlight key findings on how Latinos are faring in terms of recovery 10 years later in the areas of homeownership, employment and wealth and poverty levels. In addition, findings of the report will highlight barriers to wealth building and economic security that continue to persist.
The event will provide an in-depth look at the report as well as an opportunity to hear from policymakers, economic experts and local community members. The forum will then be followed by a Q&A session from the public and media.
Interested media should RSVP to Gabriela Gomez at [email protected] or (202) 776-1732.
