UnidosUS President and CEO: Confirmation of Guzman as SBA Administrator Provides a Step Toward Equitable Economic Recovery

WASHINGTON, DC—Following the confirmation of Isabel Guzman as administrator of the Small Business Administration, UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía issued the following statement:

“The overwhelming bipartisan Senate vote to confirm Isabel Guzman as the administrator of the Small Business Administration is indicative both of her strong qualifications and stellar track record in helping and supporting small businesses. As the lone Latina named to a Cabinet-level position by President Joe Biden, Guzman will lead the implementation of the largest small business relief program in our country’s history.

“Guzman’s impressive resume speaks for itself. She helped lead the SBA as deputy chief of staff under the Obama administration, and her expertise and experience will be key in overseeing aid for small businesses through the Paycheck Protection Program. As we know, during the first round of pandemic relief, minority-owned businesses received loans at significantly lower rates than White-owned businesses. We also know that Latinos are starting new businesses at twice the rate of any other racial group, and that Hispanic businesses employ nearly three million workers. Guzman’s confirmation today is much needed to help provide an equitable path to recovery for our communities, including the critical role that small businesses play in our economy.”
