Community

Spotlight on community-based strategies that address systemic barriers and advance Latino homeownership.

The Home Ownership Means Equity (HOME) initiative is dedicated to transforming the economic trajectory of Latinos by advancing systemic change to add 4 million new Hispanic homeowners by 2030. To advance this goal, UnidosUS is investing in and supporting its Affiliates and other community-based organizations that are implementing innovative approaches to expanding homeownership opportunities in their communities.

HOME Community of Practice

Fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge and providing mutual support are all integral aspects to reaching our goal of adding 4 million new Hispanic homeowners by 2030. Through collective expertise and resource sharing, our Community of Practice will enable innovative solutions and advance practices that support Hispanic homeownership.

What is Premio HOME?

Premio HOME is a national competition designed to elevate and expand innovative approaches that address the shortage of affordable homes for purchase in the U.S. While homeownership remains the primary pathway to building generational wealth, many communities face an acute shortage of affordable starter homes.

This is a critical barrier to closing the racial and ethnic homeownership gap. Premio HOME seeks to identify and spotlight community-based practices that are addressing this housing supply challenge.

Premio HOME is an opportunity to recognize existing innovative and scalable approaches that are underway to address the critical shortage of houses needed to close our nation’s homeownership gap.

Happy family in new home.

Premio HOME

We launched Premio HOME to elevate and invest in innovative approaches that address the shortage of affordable homes throughout the United States, particularly the shortage of starter homes for first-time homebuyers.

Why is this work important?

Homeownership remains the primary gateway to building intergenerational wealth. But many communities face a shortage of affordable homes to even buy, especially for Latino communities. This remains a key barrier to closing the racial wealth and homeownership gaps.

Premio HOME grantees represent 12 states, Puerto Rico and D.C., advancing innovative and scalable solutions that increase affordable homes. These solutions span a range of approaches, projects, programs and initiatives, including those in construction and design, innovative homeownership models and climate resiliency.
