ICYMI: UnidosUS Launches HOME Initiative in Stockton-Central Valley, California

On September 14, 2023, UnidosUS unveiled the organization’s HOME (Home Ownership Means Equity) initiative in California’s Central Valley. The initiative is part of a national campaign introduced in June 2023 to influence systemic change and catalyze the creation of four million new Latino homeowners nationwide by 2030.

As part of the Stockton-Central Valley market launch, UnidosUS Senior Vice President of Economic Initiatives Laura Arce gave a keynote address at the San Joaquin Valley Affordable Housing Summit. Laura shared insights on the economic importance of expanding Latino homeownership in the Central Valley area and California broadly. One of our local Central Valley Affiliates, Visionary Home Builders of California, was integral in making this happen. We thank them and our additional local affiliates El Concilio and Self-Help Enterprises for their continued efforts and partnership.

“This new, national movement will increase homebuyer readiness, expand access to credit, increase the supply of affordable homes, and help preserve homeownership for Latinos.”Laura Arce, UnidosUS Senior Vice President for Economic Initiatives

As the largest racial and ethnic group in California, Latino residents have also driven increases in homeownership rates across the state, particularly in some Central Valley counties. Between 2013-2021, Latinos in California have made up 76% of the state’s homeownership growth. Through cross-sector partnerships, HOME will help Central Valley Latinos create pathways to homeownership.
