Congress cannot leave Latinos out of the economic recovery

Today, UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía provided important testimony on what is needed for COVID-19 relief in the Latino community in front of the House Committee on Financial Services. Her testimony touched on the fact that Latinos had already experienced a 66% drop in household wealth as a result of the Great Recession, and were struggling to make ends meet before the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

She stressed the need for bold and inclusive relief, particularly as Latinos make up a disproportionate number of essential workers, as well as those who make up the sick and dying from the virus.

She also provided much need expertise on the impact of UnidosUS’s housing counseling programs, the role of community-based organizations in the pandemic, and the need to protect small businesses who have been impacted by this crisis. Check out her interventions below:
