Hispanic Heritage Month Marks a Moment to Consider How Latino Babies Contribute to the Future of American Society
It’s Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the contributions that Latinos make to US society – now and in the future. Over the past year, UnidosUS participated in the educational non-profit ZERO TO THREE’s Think Babies™ campaign to better understand the needs of Latino infants and toddlers. The project took our communications team to produce stories at our Affiliates in Washington State and North Carolina to better understand the needs of very young, diverse, multilingual infants and toddlers. Through this work, UnidosUS seeks to support policies that expand quality, affordable child care so that more parents can continue working while their children learn and thrive. It also seeks to provide paid leave policies that help parents to nurture their babies during those critical early months. Early childcare and education have been drastically impacted by the pandemic, but there are ways to curb its impact and expand on supports for babies and toddlers.
