Message from the President and CEO
Building Latino Power
As we quickly approach the height of this critical election year, we are thrilled to officially launch our Building Power Initiative. You may recall from the Spring issue of Unidos Impact, I was eager to begin the conversation with you – our invaluable donors – about our new strategic direction to build Latino wealth, health and power.
There is so much at stake for our community. The margins of victory in a close election year are often small but can result in sweeping changes. As we’ve seen more voter suppression and anti-immigrant measures in various states, we understand that further disenfranchisement of Latino voters is a real possibility, as is greater political inequality and hostility towards our community, all of which have implications for our efforts with policymakers and government officials.
But Latinos can hold a decisive role in U.S. politics as the second largest group of both voters and voting age Americans. And as we have said for many years, Hispanic well-being and prosperity are key to our nation’s collective future. That’s why we continue to bolster our efforts to grow Latino political power and agency by polling and data analysis of Latino voters across the country to gain an accurate understanding of the Hispanic electorate, advocate on the issues that matter to our community and direct nonpartisan community engagement to get out the vote.
Your unwavering commitment to our mission is integral to this work. Our Building Power Initiative aims to:
- Shape the public discourse: increase Latino leaders’ understanding and accountability for the priorities of the Latino community.
- Grow the Latino electorate: equip voters with the information they need and promote the power of the Latino vote.
- Elevate Latino leaders: increase Latino representation in decision-making.
With our Affiliate Network of nearly 300 community-based organizations nationwide, key partners, and vital donors – like you – by our side, we can unlock the power and influence of our community and advance our mission to expand opportunities for Latinos. Mil gracias for your ongoing support!
