The Raul Yzaguirre Legacy Fund

UnidosUS was proud to launch a new fund in honor of Raul Yzaguirre at an event we held in September to celebrate his receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom this year. The Raul Yzaguirre Legacy Fund will ensure that the story of this civil rights icon, who led UnidosUS for three decades, is accurately told and preserved for generations to come.

Most Americans know very little about the Latino community. Our history is rarely taught in schools. Our contributions to America are rarely recognized. And our patriotism and military service are poorly understood. The absence of a robust and accurate narrative about who we are, what we have done, and what our value is to the nation affects every facet of our lives. It affects how others see us and explains why our rights and citizenship are often questioned. Importantly, it also affects how we see ourselves. Through this fund, we will strengthen our capacity to document and archive the work of UnidosUS, our Affiliates, and our leaders, thereby ensuring we tell the true story of our movement in our own words.

We are grateful to the fund’s founding donors, who contributed $100 or more between the fund’s launch on September 14 and the end of Hispanic Heritage Month on October 15. We are honored to publicly acknowledge your support not only to thank you, but also because it inspires others to join you!
