Our call to Congress: Pass the “HEROES Act” and stop the half-measures

Today, UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía sent an open letter to Congress calling for a real, comprehensive plan to help American families meet the chronic challenges of life during the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than five months after the CARES Act, the unemployment rate is double what it was in February, and as many as one in eight homes in the country doesn’t have enough to eat. Most of Congress’s proposed plans are “skinny” proposals, mere bandages that don’t provide lasting relief.

The House of Representatives passed the “HEROES Act” nearly four months ago, and it’s the only proposal that’s comprehensive enough to meet the severe needs of families across the country—needs that are growing day by day.

Partisanship is getting in the way of helping American families heal as we continue living through the pandemic. We need bipartisan support for the “HEROES” Act or similar legislation to get relief through the Senate and on the president’s desk. Urge your Senators to take up the “HEROES Act” here.
