¡Adelante!, our campaign to drive Latino political power

Latinos are the largest minority voting bloc in the country, and we could decide local contests across the nation and even determine who will win the presidential election. It is under this context that our initiative ¡Adelante! has been created. #Adelante2020

The year 2020 is going to be a decisive year for our community. It is not only the year the census is conducted, requiring the participation of our entire community to be counted—but it is also an election year. Latinos are bound to become the largest minority voting bloc in the country by the time of the 2020 Election. With full participation by all eligible and registered voters, Latinos could help decide the outcome of the election. It is in this context that our initiative ¡Adelante! has been created.

November 14 marked the day UnidosUS launched our ¡Adelante! campaign to continue empowering Latinos in the United States through the power of our vote, civic education, leadership development, and more. Using the full power of our policy expertise, groundbreaking programs, and network of community-based Affiliate partners, ¡Adelante! aims to make the Latino electorate the strongest it has ever been.

EMPOWERING THE LATINO VOTE

Approximately, 32 million Hispanics will be eligible to vote in 2020, and through our ¡Adelante! efforts we will register 120,000 new Latino voters nationally, and reach more than 350,000 voters with get out the vote (GOTV) activities.

To achieve this, we are replicating our highly successful Florida canvassing model in the state of Texas, working with our Affiliates and a network of partners that will specifically focus on critical locations such as El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley.

Using our network of nearly 300 Affiliates across the country, we will integrate voter education and advocacy training into existing programs and events attended by our Affiliates. We will focus on our priority issues–education, economic empowerment, health, and immigrant integration–and we will train community leaders across our network to advance these priorities.

UnidosUS canvassers in Florida have already registered more than 21,000 voters in the state as of December 2019. We are working to build on that success with in-person voter canvassing in Texas, and across all our digital networks nationwide.

MAKING OUR VOICES HEARD

Furthermore, our ¡Adelante! campaign has the goal to ensure that the 2020 presidential candidates’ platforms reflect the Latino’s vision for the United States, a country focused in the well-being of all Americans. You can learn more about UnidosUS’s “2020 Issues Platform: A Roadmap for Stronger Communities and a Stronger America” here.

Being counted in the census and helping eligible residents become citizens are two more ways in which this initiative will amplify the reach on our priority issues. And ¡Adelante! aims to amplify the presence of Latinos and our voice in the presidential campaigns and local and state races.
