Looking back: The future is Latina at the 2018 UnidosUS Annual Conference
This year’s Latinas Brunch’s theme is Power and Influence, exemplified by both of this year’s featured speakers—Nicole Taylor, President and CEO of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation; and Gloria Calderon Kellet, Writer and Executive Producer of One Day at a Time.
In her role, Taylor has continuously challenged the tech sector to engage with community-based organizations. Calderon Kellet has also been a leader for our community, through her work crafting One Day at a Time, which depicted an average Latino family.
As we near the start of the 2019 UnidosUS Annual Conference, now is a good time to look back on the 2018 Latinas Brunch and the powerful conversation we witnessed between these leaders.
The Latinas Brunch last year featured remarks by Cecile Richards, former President of Planned Parenthood, and Ilia Calderon, the first Afro-Latina to anchor an evening news program for a major news outlet.
The Latinas Brunch also included the Future is Latina panel, which featured Elisa Villanueva, CEO of Teach for America; Silvia Olivas, Co-Executive Producer and Story Editor of Elena of Avalor; Natalia Oberti Noguera, Founder and CEO of Pipeline Angels; Greisa Martinez Rosas, Deputy Executive Director of United We Dream; Elizabeth Guzman, Delegate in Virginia’s House of Delegates, representing the 31st district.
Each of the panelists spoke about their careers, outlined the struggles they have faced, and shared their insights into the future.
