Tell Mitch McConnell that enough is enough
The United States is on the 27th day of a partial government shutdown—the longest shutdown in our country’s history. Unfortunately, Congress doesn’t seem to be edging closer to a resolution.
As a result, hundreds of thousands of American families are suffering the consequences of their inaction, unable to make ends meet without a paycheck. Millions of U.S. families who rely on critical nutrition programs to fight food insecurity will also be unable to put food on the table for their children if this shutdown continues much longer.
This shutdown is jeopardizing our economy and upending the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of working families who already face financial stress every day.
Finding a solution to end the shutdown has been difficult because Senate Republican leadership—in particular, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell—have been completely absent. Their refusal to vote on any measures to re-open the government that don’t include the unnecessary, wasteful, and vastly unpopular funding for the border wall make it clear that they are complicit in the Trump Shutdown.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
We launched an online petition asking Senator McConnell to step up and re-open the government. We are also asking him to reject funding for a border wall that simply won’t get us to the real solutions needed to improve our nation’s immigration system, such as long overdue protections for DREAMers and TPS recipients.
It’s time that we tell Senator McConnell that Trump’s fake crisis has created a real one at home. By signing, you will send a message—that holding federal workers’ livelihoods hostage is unacceptable and against American values.
