A Preview of the 2017 NCLR Annual Conference Workshops
The 2017 NCLR Annual Conference, which will take place in Phoenix, provides a platform to engage and unite the Latino community. For years, we have proudly exhibited our growth and success during our Conference, representing the largest gathering of the nation’s most influential people, organizations, institutions, and companies working with the Hispanic community.
The 2017 NCLR Annual Conference consists of four days of cutting-edge workshops focused on addressing critical issues in the Latino community. It includes five meal events with appearances by influential and notable speakers who will address attendees on topics related to the Conference’s goal of enriching and advancing the Latino community in the United States.

The New Normal: Opportunities to Promote and Attain Homeownership
Despite the twists and turns that have impacted the U.S. real estate market, homeownership is one of the biggest investments that a person can make in their lifetime. The issue is however, that many people do not know what options are available to them when they decide to buy a home. In this workshop, you will learn about the current state of homeownership. This workshop will also provide prospective first-time homebuyers with the necessary information to become homeowners.
Digital Innovation: Bringing Our Community into the 21st Century
In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn how to teach others to get acquainted with dynamic digital technology. In this workshop, you will learn how to incorporate digital literacy into your current programs, how to move along the digital pyramid, and receive resources for you to create your own technology-integrated programs.
DreamBuilder: A Free Online Business Plan Creator
Thunderbird School of Global Management and the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation will present their free online business plan creator, DreamBuilder, which is available in English and Spanish. This workshop will provide an overview of how to use DreamBuilder, as well as implementation tips from our partner organizations, such as NCLR Affiliate Mi Casa Resource Center; Phoenix-based Fresh Start Women’s Foundation and Arizona Women’s Education and Entrepreneurship Center; and the Eastern Arizona College’s Small Business Development Center.
The High School Democracy Project: Engaging Youth in Our Democracy
Roughly one million Latino citizen youth turn 18 every year, making them eligible to become voters and be more engaged in our democracy. To foster a lifetime of civic engagement in these youth, NCLR developed the High School Democracy Project, which includes a curriculum that teachers can implement in their classrooms and community organizations to emphasize the importance of exercising our civic duties.
