Understanding the Size and Magnitude of the Current Anti-Immigrant Landscape on the Educational Outlooks of Latino Children

Article

This statement for the record was submitted as part of the December 4, 2019 hearing by the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor entitled, “Growing Up in Fear: How the Trump Administration’s Immigration Policies are Harming Children.” Consistent with conclusions from our April 2019 report, Beyond the Border: Family Separation in the Trump Era, in this statement UnidosUS argues that the anti-immigrant policies and political climate under the Trump Administration is jeopardizing the educational outlooks of an entire generation of American kids at risk. With 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 being of Latino heritage -nearly 95% U.S. citizens – the current immigration environment also threatens the long term health and vitality of the nation as a whole.
