Trump’s Immigration Budget for Fiscal Year 2019
In February 2018, the White House released the President’s proposed budget for the U.S. Government for Fiscal Year 2019 (FY2019). While Congress is the branch of government responsible for passing a spending bill each year, an administration’s annual proposed budget request provides important insight into the direction it seeks to take nation. It is also a moral document that should reflect our collective values as Americans, and support the hopes and dreams of our families, communities, and country as a whole. When it comes to immigration, the president’s proposal confirms that his administration is out of touch with the American public in both direction and moral vision. His request would provide the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and its components unprecedented levels of funding to separate American families, threaten documented immigrants like DACA recipients and TPS holders with deportation, and undermine transparency and accountability. At UnidosUS, we are committed to fighting for a just and commonsense immigration system that we can all be proud of.
