One Year Later A Look at SB 1070 and Copycat Legislation

Hoja informativa

After the passage of Arizona SB 1070, there was great speculation that Arizona copycat laws would move quickly in other states. Emboldened by worldwide attention–and in spite of the damage to the state’s image, lost business and tourism revenue, and exorbitant legal fees that Arizona has faced since the passage of SB 1070–the legislators and private interest groups that helped pass this law announced their intent to introduce copycat versions of this law in other states. This report details the impact that the law and subsequent boycotts have had on Arizona, outlines the reasons why momentum to pass copycats has stalled, and highlights where SB 1070 copycat bills have been rejected or are still being considered.
